As a part of Google’s UX Design Certificate class, I was prompted to tackle a social issue that mattered to me with a software solution. I chose to approach the daunting task of helping fight the epidemic of mental health crises created by social media. I sought to take the hard learned lessons of first generation social media to craft a new social experience that cuts out anxiety inducing functionality and promotes healthier socializing especially among Generation Z users.

I used secondary research to verify the strong correlation between social media use and mental ailments in Gen Z, and then interviewed a cohort of 4 Gen Z participants to collect more information. A competitive audit was also used to better understand the industry landscape. (Graphs immediately below are from Jonathan Haidt's lecture on the Coddling of the American Mind, 2019)
